Headline: "Medication Prices on the Rise!"
A 23.5% increase has been applied to pharmaceutical prices. Amendments to the Decision on Pricing of Medicinal Products for Human Use have been published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, leading to a significant price adjustment in the pharmaceutical sector.
According to the new regulation, the Turkish lira value of 1 euro used in determining drug prices has been increased by 23.5%, rising to 21.6721 TL. Additionally, the threshold values for price-protected products have been updated to 74.72 TL, and for other products to 39.05 TL. This has resulted in a notable increase in the cost of essential medicinal products for citizens.
Valid until the end of 2025
The effects of these increases are not limited to the current year; the newly calculated euro value will continue to be applied until the end of 2025, indicating a long-term trend in rising drug prices.
Furthermore, increases up to 4 TL, as covered under Temporary Article 7, are exempt. However, it has been stated that the increases following the update will be applied without affecting the wholesale prices.
Distributor and pharmacist profit margins redefined
The decision also clarified the profit margins for distributors and pharmacists. For the segment up to a wholesale price of 328 TL, the distributor's profit is set at 8%, and the pharmacist's profit at 28%.
In the segment between 328 TL and 657 TL, the distributor profit is updated to 6%, and the pharmacist profit to 18%. For prices exceeding 657 TL, the distributor profit is set at 3% and the pharmacist profit at 13%. These changes are expected to impact the profitability of distribution channels in the sector.
