Headline: Competition Authority Launches Investigation into Prominent TV Series Production and Distribution Companies
The Competition Authority has initiated an investigation concerning some of Turkey's significant television production and distribution companies, as well as entities active in the digital marketing sector. These investigations will be conducted in accordance with the decisions of the Competition Authority dated October 3, 2024, aiming to assess whether there has been any violation of the competitive environment in the media industry.
Within the scope of decisions numbered 24-40/956-M(1), 24-40/956-M(2), and 24-40/956-M(3) by the Competition Authority, an investigation will be conducted to determine whether Med Yapım Televizyon ve Filmcilik Anonim Şirketi (MED YAPIM), Ay Sanat Prodüksiyon ve Yapım Anonim Şirketi (AY YAPIM), MA Distribution Televizyon ve Filmcilik Anonim Şirketi (MADD ENTERTAINMENT), Yek Teknoloji Pazarlama Anonim Şirketi (MERZİGO), and Key Networks Holding Anonim Şirketi (KEY NETWORKS) have violated the Law on the Protection of Competition No. 4054.
Distribution of Domestic Series and Labor Market Actions: The investigation will assess the actions of well-known Turkish series production companies MED YAPIM and AY YAPIM, along with their jointly established MADD ENTERTAINMENT, regarding the distribution of domestic series abroad. It will examine whether these actions violate the Law on the Protection of Competition No. 4054.
Moreover, there will be an investigation into whether MED YAPIM and AY YAPIM have engaged in actions that restrict competition in labor markets. The review within this framework will reconsider how these companies impact market conditions, potentially yielding significant outcomes for maintaining competitive balance.
Exclusionary Actions in Digital Marketing: Another aspect of the investigation concerns whether KEY NETWORKS and MERZİGO, operating within the same economic entity, have engaged in exclusionary practices against their competitors while delivering series content via the digital platform YouTube. The Competition Authority will thoroughly examine whether these platforms have violated the competitive environment.
This investigation aims to ensure the preservation of competition within the Turkish media and digital marketing sectors while scrutinizing the impact of these companies' activities on the market.
