Intriguing Investigation: Competition Authority Probes MED Yapım, Ay Yapım, Madd Entertainment, Merzigo, and Key Networks

An investigation has been initiated by the Competition Authority to determine whether MED YAPIM, AY YAPIM, MADD ENTERTAINMENT, MERZİGO, and KEY NETWORKS have violated the Law No. 4054. The announcement stated:

"The Competition Authority has decided to open an investigation into certain entities within the media sector, including well-known Turkish series production and distribution companies and digital marketing companies. According to the Competition Board's decisions dated 03.10.2024, numbered 24-40/956-M(1), 24-40/956-M(2), and 24-40/956-M(3), it has been resolved to investigate Med Yapım Televizyon ve Filmcilik Anonim Şirketi (MED YAPIM), Ay Sanat Prodüksiyon ve Yapım Anonim Şirketi (AY YAPIM), MA Distribution Televizyon ve Filmcilik Anonim Şirketi (MADD ENTERTAINMENT), Yek Teknoloji Pazarlama Anonim Şirketi (MERZİGO), and Key Networks Holding Anonim Şirketi (KEY NETWORKS) to determine whether they have violated the Law on the Protection of Competition (Law No. 4054).

Within the scope of this investigation:

It will be examined whether MED YAPIM and AY YAPIM, among Turkey’s well-known series production companies, alongside MADD ENTERTAINMENT established through the partnership of these production companies, have violated Law No. 4054 through their actions related to the distribution of domestic series abroad. It will also investigate whether MED YAPIM and AY YAPIM have restricted competition in the labor markets in violation of Law No. 4054. Additionally, it will examine whether KEY NETWORKS and MERZİGO, as part of the same economic entity providing series content services via YOUTUBE, have violated Law No. 4054 through exclusionary practices against competitors."
